King Steps into the Lead after Round 1 of the Alabama Women’s State Senior Championship

First round results of the 45th Alabama Women’s State Senior Amateur Championship hosted by Grayson Valley Country Club in Birmingham on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 (Championship Division: 5493 yards, par 37-35—72, 72.1/129; Tournament Division: 5330 yards, par 37-35—72, 70.4/125; Super Senior Division: 5036 yards, par 37-35—72, 68.8/122).

Lucie King of Tuscaloosa posted an opening round of 81 to hold a one stroke lead over the defending champion Susan West of Tuscaloosa.

Barbee Bryant of Birmingham posted an 83 to take a two stroke lead in the Tournament Division.

In the Super Senior Division, Jessie Hsia of Tuscaloosa leads by 10 shots after carding an 84.

The overall champion is the player who posts the lowest 54-hole score from the Championship Division. Tournament and Super Senior divisions play a shorter course and ineligible for the overall championship.

Alabama Women’s State Senior Amateur Championship is open to any female amateur golfer who has reached her 50th birthday by the first day of the championship, a legal resident of Alabama, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)

The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 130 member clubs represented by nearly 18,500 individuals. The activities and services of the Alabama Golf Association are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of Alabama golfers who wish to serve the game and the association through service.

Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the Southern Golf Association.
