Borders and Dyar Win the 12th Alabama Women's State Four-Ball Championship

The 12th Alabama Women’s State Four-Ball Championship concluded today with 26 teams having a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. at Gadsden Country Club.

Chloe Borders of Anniston and Layne Dyar of Jacksonville fired an impressive five-under par 66 in the final round to win the title with an overall score of 135 (-7). Their round included birdies on holes 3, 11, 12, 13 and 17 to win by three shots.

In a scorecard playoff, Anna Claire Little and Elisabeth Preus both from Auburn shot a three-under par 69 to finish in second place over the team of Annalee Stephens of Jasper and Hannah Pope of Florence who placed in third.

Linda Jeffery of Prattville and Stacy Quilling of Birmingham shot an even par 71, finishing in third place with a championship total of 141(-1).

In the tournament division, Laura Beth Yates of Lake View and Melanie Smith of Hoover fired a one-over par 72 in the final round to win their division by one stroke.

In the inaugural Alabama Women’s State Senior Four-Ball Championship, Chris Spivey of Pell City and Sue Solomon of Birmingham fired a four-under par 67 to take home the title. Their 36 hole total of 133 beat Kathy Hartwiger of Birmingham and Lea Green of McCalla by two shots.

Nancy Gavin of Jacksons Gap and Trish Carter of Hoover carded a tournament total of 149 to win the senior division second flight.

In the senior division third flight, Jane McGrif and Sylvia Sumners both of Birmingham shot an seven-over par 78 to win their flight.

This championship is conducted by the Alabama Golf Association.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)

The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 130 member clubs represented by nearly 18,500 individuals. The activities and services of the Alabama Golf Association are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of Alabama golfers who wish to serve the game and the association through service.

AGA is the USGA's liaison for golf in Alabama conducting national championship qualifying, administering the USGA Handicap system including the GHIN Handicap service, course & slope rating and education. The AGA annually conducts 20 championships and team match competitions for men, women, juniors, and seniors. The AGA also conducts Alabama high school golf championships and assists with many collegiate events including the SEC Men's Golf Championship. In addition to competitions, the AGA administers the AGA Women's Scholarship Fund that is dedicated to assisting young female golfers in higher education and supports the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation.

Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the Southern Golf Association.
