Huntsville Country Club to Host State Senior Four-Ball Championships

HOOVER, AL (October 9, 2019) – The Alabama Golf Association’s 25th Alabama State Senior Four-Ball Championship and Inaugural State Super Senior Four-Ball Championship will be hosted by Huntsville Country Club in Huntsville, AL from October 11-13.

This year marks the 25th playing of the Alabama State Senior Four-Ball Championship and the first playing of the State Super Senior Four-Ball Championship. Previously, Super Seniors competed in their own division for teams where both players were age 65+ but was not recognized as a standalone championship.

A field of 58 teams will compete in this year’s championship with 44 sides in the Senior Championship and 14 in the Super Senior Championship. Format is 54 holes of four-ball stroke play. After 36 holes, the field will be cut to the low 24 sides in the Senior Championship and 8 teams in the Super Senior Championship.

Championship History & Records

This is the second time that Huntsville Country Club has hosted the Alabama State Senior Four-Ball Championship (2009 won by Ralph Matthews & David Hancock).

Last year at Wynlakes Golf & Country Club, Joey Holley of Troy and Stan Sherlin of Montgomery fired a back-nine six-under 30 to win the Alabama State Senior Four-Ball Championship title for the second time posting a 197 (-19) total. Sherlin holed a five-foot birdie on the difficult 430-yard Par 4 18th hole that would prove to be the championship winning putt for a one stroke victory. Holley and Sherlin won the title in 2012 at Vestavia Country Club.

Thursday, October 10

All Day: Practice rounds.

9:00am-4:00pm: Player Registration in the Golf Shop.

Friday, October 11

Round 1: Tee times begin at 8:00am and 12:00pm off #1 & #10 tees.

Saturday, October 12

Round 2: Tee times begin at 8:00am and 12:00pm off #1 & #10 tees.

Field cut and re-grouped according to score for final round.

Sunday, October 13

Round 3: Tee times at 8:00am off #1 & #10 tees.

Awards ceremony immediately following play at scoreboard

 

Prizes

Awards will be presented to the Champions in both the Senior Championship and Super Senior Championship (age 65+). Merchandise prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each championship. Senior Championship Champions will have their name engraved on the Bob Phillips Trophy and may take possession of the trophy for the ensuing year.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)
