Playing in hot conditions, enduring two weather delays, Mark Sawyer of Centre, AL leads the opening round of the 75th Boys State Junior Championship, carding a low score of seven-under 65.

“I’m going to keep doing the same thing,” Sawyer said. “My plan is to keep playing solid golf.”

One stroke behind, Max Johnson of Fairhope and Gregory Jones of Mobile posted six-under 66 to tie for second place.

“This golf course is receptive, so I know low scores are going to happen each day,” Johnson said. “My mindset for tomorrow is to reset, go back out and play another good round.”

One-stroke behind leaders, Ward Harris of Vestavia Hillsposted a five-under 67 to tie for third place alongside Hayden Carner of Birmingham.
