The Alabama State Parent-Child Championship was conducted today for the third time at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley’s Ridge course in Birmingham. 50 teams from across the state competed in two divisions and six flights over 18 holes of modified alternate shot where both team members played from their designated tee, selected a ball and played alternate shot until the ball was holed.

The Father-Son Overall Champions, Casey and David Dougherty of Auburn partnered to strike the ball well, make putts and be named champions.

“This is the third year we’ve played in this event,” David Dougherty said. “We’ve finished third, second and now first! It was just a perfect day.”

“We just ham and egged it pretty well,” Casey Dougherty said.

Pryce Holcombe, the Special Olympics North American Unified Golf Champion, and his dad, Les Holcombe, teamed up to win the Open Division.

“Coming down the stretch, Pryce had to hit two, long pro shots to the green,” Les Holcombe said. “He hit them perfectly. We were in a tight match, and he came through.”
