MONTGOMERY, AL (September 25, 2020) – First round results of the 32nd Alabama State Mid-Amateur Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Montgomery Country Club in Montgomery, AL on Friday, September 25, 2020 (6418 yards, par 35-35—70, 71.7/134).

Jackson King of Hoover and Matt Gourgeot co-lead round one of the 32nd Alabama State Mixed-Amateur Championship. Each player carded a five-under 65 to stand T1. 

“It was perfect out there, these conditions could not have been any better,” King said. “The golf course is in perfect shape, so the numbers are out there to go get.”

“I didn’t hit it very well, but I putt and chipped it pretty good,” Gourgeot said. “I just missed it in the right spots, and when I had a good look at birdie, I made it. I love playing Montgomery, the course is in great shape and I’m excited.”

Standing tied for third, Robby Prater of Birmingham, Stewart Whitt of Athens and Steven Muncher of Birmingham remain one-stroke behind King and Gourgeot.

Round 1 Notes:

·       19 players are under par through 18 holes with a field average score of 74.66

·       65 (-5) was the low round of the day carded by Jackson King and Matt Gourgeot

·       278 birdies and 3 eagles posted in round one

·       Easiest hole: No. 5, 534 yards, par 5, 4.87 scoring average

·       Hardest Hole: No. 1, 402 yards, par 4, 4.31 scoring average

Round two begins tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. from both the No. 1 and No. 10 tees.
