BIRMINGHAM, AL (May 19, 2021) – Alabama Golf Association (AGA) recently announced its 2021 Women's Scholarship recipients, awarding two graduating seniors with $20,000 toward their higher education goals.

Annamarie Thompson and Lauren Thompson, incoming first-year students at Mississippi State and Lipscomb Universities, are this year's AGA Women's Scholarship recipients. Each candidate is selected based on academic merit, community involvement and a demonstrated interest in golf.

The purpose of the AGA Women's Scholarship fund is to provide financial assistance to young female golfers to support their successes in higher education. Selected students will receive $2,500 per semester for eight consecutive semesters toward their academic aspirations.

"Just receiving this scholarship is a huge blessing to my family going forward," said Annamarie Thompson, an upcoming biomedical engineering student at Mississippi State University. "It opened a lot of doors and offered me the opportunity to attend an out-of-state institution. I'm so thankful to represent the Alabama Golf Association."

Through golf tournaments, fundraisers, and individual and club donations, the program has enabled women across Alabama to pursue post-secondary degrees since 2010.

"I am immensely grateful to say that I will be attending Lipscomb University to further my academic and athletic career," said scholarship recipient Lauren Thompson. "I never would have expected to be blessed with all of the amazing opportunities and relationships I have gained through the game because of organizations like the AGA."

The AGA Women’s Scholarship fund currently supports three students, in addition to this year's recipients.
