BIRMINGHAM, AL (May 21, 2021) – The Alabama Golf Association welcomes 2021 P.J. Boatwright Interns to its team in time for the upcoming tournament season. Four students from universities nationwide join the summer team with a variety of assets and skills.

Jake Marous, a recent graduate of the University of Kentucky, and Evan Denholm, a recent graduate of Kent State University, will be joining our tournament management team as Tournament Operations Interns. Margaret Seay, a rising senior at The University of Alabama, and Savannah Snowden, a senior at The University of Alabama at Birmingham, will be collaborating as Tournament Media and Communications Interns.

“I’m so honored to receive this internship,” said Snowden. “My experience this summer with the Alabama Golf Association will be an invaluable asset for future work in my field, and I can’t wait to join the team.”

These four team members were selected among hundreds of applicants to be a part of the USGA’s P.J. Boatwright Internship Program, a long-standing tradition for students to gain experience in the golf industry.

“I look forward to working with the AGA and learning the ins and outs of how a golf tournament operates,” stated Denholm. “I think this is a great step in the right direction in getting my foot in the door to the golf industry.”

For 30 years, the program has partnered with Allied Golf Associations (AGAs), raising nearly $30 million to provide internship opportunities for students across the nation. The Alabama Golf Association is thankful to the USGA for the P.J. Boatwright grant, making it possible to welcome this year’s interns.

The P.J. Boatwright Internship Program offers students hands-on experience in the sports management industry, from tournament management to marketing and communications. According to the USGA, Boatwright alumni represent one-third of AGA staff and 21 current executive directors at state and regional golf associations.

“I look forward to working alongside Savannah while sharpening and expanding my skills in sports media and communication,” said Seay. “As a Tournament Media and Communication Intern, I am excited for the unique opportunity to share and promote the game of golf on a statewide level.”

Interns from all 59 AGAs across the country will attend a virtual summit where they network and collaborate, while preparing for their summer roles. USGA staff members will train and equip interns with industry knowledge and professional development tools through interactive sessions.

The Alabama Golf Association welcomes this year’s class of interns and their varied abilities to advance amateur golf in Alabama, while preparing them for future opportunities.
