Connor Newton Takes the Lead in Round Two of the 105th Alabama Men’s State Amateur Championship

BIRMINGHAM, AL (June 11, 2021) - Official Round Two results of the 105th Alabama State Amateur Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Pine Tree Country Club in Birmingham, AL, June 11, 2021.

Starting Times

Connor Newton of Auburn emerged as the leader of Round Two, finishing six-under-par 65. He holds a three-stroke lead, posting a total of 11-under 131, to remain atop the leaderboard.

"I'm hitting the ball really well," Newton says. "I feel like I could've made more putts, which is exciting. Hopefully, I'll have a good chance to do something."

Defending Champion, Gordon Sargent of Birmingham, stands three strokes behind Newton, firing four-under-par 67 for the day. Altogether, he is eight-under 134 for the tournament.

Round One leader, Sheldon Statkewicz of Mobile, stands third after finishing the day even-par 71. Overall, he is six-under 136.

Connor Doyal of Birmingham posted five-under 66 for the day to secure fourth on the leaderboard. He remains five-under 137 for the tournament.

Nicholas Sawyer of Centre made an ace on Hole #16.

The final cut includes the low 60 players (including ties) in the field for rounds three and four. The cut line fell at four-over 146, and 63 players will advance to the next two rounds.

Weather permitting, players will golf 36 holes, on Saturday, June 12, 2021. Round Three begins at 7:00 a.m. off holes #1 and #10. Round Four will begin at 12:15 p.m. Pairings will remain the same for both rounds.

This Championship is conducted by the Alabama Golf Association.
