Bent Brook Golf Course to Host Alabama Golf Association’s 2nd Alabama State 13 & Under Junior Championships

BESSEMER, AL (June 21, 2021) – The Alabama Golf Association’s 2nd Alabama State 13 & Under Junior Championships will be held at Bent Brook Golf Course in Bessemer, AL, on June 23-24, 2021. Sixty-one golfers will compete for the 2nd Alabama State 13 & Under Junior Championship titles. Players will compete in six age divisions:

●      Girls 6-8 - 1 player

●      Girls 9-11 - 3 players

●      Girls 12-13 - 7 players

●      Boys 6-8 - 5 players

●      Boys 9-11 - 18 players

●      Boys 12-13 - 27 players

This year marks the first time Bent Brook has hosted the Alabama State 13 & Under Championships. The inaugural Alabama Boys State 13 & Under Champion, Tyler Watts, won in 2020 at Goose Pond Colony, setting a new course record with his Final Round score of 11-under 61.

Christine Chang of Auburn won the inaugural Alabama Girls State 13 & Under Junior Championship, hosted by Valley Hill Country Club in 2020. Chang posted a six-over 150 to secure her title.

Entries for the 2nd Alabama State 13 & Under Junior Championships are open to any male or female amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama with an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club.

Male 9-11 & 12-13 Age Divisions:

Yardage: 5529 yards

Course & Slope Rating: 65.7/117

Male 6-8 Age Division:

Yardage: 4240 yards

Course & Slope Rating: 53.8/86

Female 9-11 & 12-13 Age Divisions:

Yardage: 5036 yards

Course & Slope Rating: 67.9/116

Female 6-8 Age Division:

Yardage: 4240 yards

Course & Slope Rating: 55.8/89

Championship Format:

●      36 holes of gross individual stroke play for players 9-11 & 12-13 Age Divisions.

●      18 holes (9 each day) for 6-8 Age Division.

●      The lowest score for 36 holes in the Overall Division (9-11 and 12-13 Age Divisions) will be the Overall Champion.

●      In the event of a tie for the Overall Championship only, a hole-by-hole playoff will be held immediately following play. The playoff holes and their order of play will be determined by the Committee.

●      Any other ties in all other divisions will be resolved by matching scorecards according to the USGA recommendation within the Committee Procedures of the Rules of Golf – “Matching Scorecards.”

●      Initial groupings will be for Round One. Players will be repaired by score for the Final Round.

Field regrouped according to score.

Round 2: Tee times at 7:30 a.m. off #1 & #10 tees.

Awards ceremony immediately following play.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)

The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama.
