John Lunsford and Polly McCrackin Crowned Champions of the 2nd Alabama State 13 & Under Junior Championships

BESSEMER, AL (June 24, 2021) – Final round results of the 2nd Alabama State 13 & Under Junior Championships of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Bent Brook Golf Course in Bessemer, AL, on Thursday, June 24, 2021.

John Lunsford of Cullman claimed victory as the 2nd Alabama State Boys 13 & Under Junior Champion. Lunsford led round one with an electric eight-under 64, holding a five-stroke lead heading into today’s round. He finished the final round with one-over 73 and seven-under 137 for the tournament.

“Today I had a lot of lows, and it was my play yesterday that carried me through to the top,” said Lunsford. “It feels amazing to be champion.”

Defending Boys Junior Champion, Tyler Watts of Huntsville finished second in a close race within the Overall Male division. He posted three-under 69 for the day and six-under 138 for the tournament.

Graham Patton of Tuscaloosa finished third with two-under 70 for the day and five-under 139 for the tournament.

Polly McCrackin of Hoover was crowned Champion of the 2nd Alabama State Girls 13 & Under Junior Championship. McCrackin finished two-under 70 for the day, and four-under 140 for the tournament.

“It was a pretty slow start on the front nine today, but once I turned the corner, I was feeling comfortable with my shots on the turn to the back nine,” McCrackin said. “It feels amazing!”

Julia Waldo of Prattville finished second, posting one-over 73 for the day and three-over 147 for the tournament.

Finishing in third place, Frances Brown of Mobile posted two-over 74 for the day and four-over 148 for the tournament.

○      Second Place: Sophia Pastor of Auburn 22-over 166

○      Third Place: Madilyn Grace Johnson, 73-over 217

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)
