RTJ Golf Trail at The Shoals to Host 89th Alabama Women's State Amateur Championship & 3rd Alabama Women's State Senior Match Play Championship

MUSCLE SHOALS, AL (July 5, 2021) – The Alabama Golf Association’s 89th Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship and 3rd Alabama Women’s State Senior Match Play Championship will take place at the RTJ Golf Trail at The Shoals in Muscle Shoals, AL, June 6-8, 2021. This week, 35 players will compete for the Women’s State Amateur title. There will be eight golfers playing in the Women’s State Senior Match Play Championship Division and seven golfers within the Tournament Division.

This year marks the first time the RTJ Golf Trail at The Shoals has hosted the Women’s State Amateur Championship and Women’s State Senior Match Play Championship.

Julie Baker of Hoover returns to defend her Women’s State Amateur Championship title. Baker won the title in 2020 at the Huntsville Country Club, in Huntsville. Susan West of Tuscaloosa, the 2020 Alabama Senior Women’s Player of the Year, won the 2nd Alabama Women’s State Senior Match Play Championship in 2020 at the Huntsville Country Club.

The 89th Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship entries are open to any female amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club. There will be two divisions: Championship and Tournament. Players must select their division during online registration.

The 3rd Alabama Women’s State Senior Match Play Championship entries are open to any female amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club. Players must have reached their 50th birthday by July 6, 2021. There will be two divisions for each event: Championship and Tournament. Players must select their division during online registration.

89th Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship Format:

●      18 holes of gross individual stroke play to determine seeding within each Division.

●      Championship Division will be cut to the low 16 players from the stroke play qualifier, and the remaining players will be placed into flights according to the number of entries within the division. A tie for the last qualifier’s place in the Championship Division will be decided immediately by a hole-by-hole playoff. Players are responsible for making themselves available at the scoreboard for playoff instructions. The playoff holes and their order of play will be determined by the Committee.

●      Tournament Division players will be divided into flights of four (4) to compete at match play based on qualifying round score. USGA recommended scorecard playoff procedure (last 9, last 6, etc.) will be used to decide a flight break tie.

●      Match Play Seeding: General numerical draw will be used. For purposes of determining places in the draw, ties in qualifying rounds for the #1 seed in the Championship Flight will be decided by USGA recommended scorecard playoff procedure (last 9, last 6, etc.) and all others will be decided by lot.

●      Match Play stipulated round is 18 holes. In the event of a match standing all square after 18 holes, the stipulated round is extended on a hole-by-hole basis until a winner is determined.

●      In each division, all players that lose in round one will be placed in a consolation flight.

●      Overall Champion is the Championship Division winner.

3rd Alabama Women’s State Senior Match Play Championship

Championship Division: 5531 yards, par 36-36-72

Tournament Division: 5249 yards, par 36-36-72

●  Course & Slope Rating:

Championship Division: 71.8/129

Tournament Division: 70.2/126

3rd Alabama Women’s State Senior Match Play Championship Format:

●      18 holes of gross individual stroke play to determine seeding.

●      Championship Division will be cut to the low 8 players from the stroke play qualifier and the remaining players will be placed into flights according to the number of entries within the division. A tie for the last qualifier’s place in the Championship Division will be decided immediately by a hole-by-hole playoff. Players are responsible for making themselves available at the scoreboard for playoff instructions. The playoff holes and their order will be determined by the Committee.

●      Senior Tournament players will be divided into flights of four (4) to compete at match play based on qualifying round score. USGA recommended scorecard playoff procedure (last 9, last 6, etc.) will be used to decide a flight break tie.

●      Match Play Seeding: General numerical draw will be used. For purposes of determining places in the draw, ties in qualifying rounds for the #1 seed in the First Flight will be decided by matching scorecards according to the USGA recommendation shown in the Committee Procedures section within the Rules of Golf – “Matching Scorecards”.

●      Match Play stipulated round is 18 holes. In the event of a match standing all square after 18 holes, the stipulated round is extended on a hole-by-hole basis until a winner is determined.

●     All players that lose in round one will be placed in a consolation flight.

●     Senior Champion is the Senior Championship Division winner.
