MUSCLE SHOALS, AL (July 6, 2021) – Stroke Play Qualifying results of the 89th Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship and 3rd Alabama Women’s State Senior Match Play Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by RTJ Golf Trail at The Shoals in Muscle Shoals, AL on Tuesday, July 6, 2021.

Molly Brown Davidson of Birmingham claimed medalist honors at the 89th Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship. She carded a low three-under-par 69 to open and lead the Championship.

“I feel very fortunate to be in this position, alongside all these amazing players,” Davidson said. “I’m looking forward to tomorrow! It’s been really fun, and this is such a great experience.”

Lauren Gilchrist of Spanish Fort stands second, posting two-under 70 for the day.

To conclude Stroke Play Qualifying, the five following players went into a sudden-death playoff to compete for two final positions in tomorrow’s Match Play.

  • Kylee Lynn of Opelika
  • Jinger Heath of Decatur
  • Michaela Morard of Huntsville
  • Emilia Smith of Enterprise
  • MK Horton of Birmingham

Lynn won her first playoff hole to advance, sinking a 30-footer putt on No. 17 for birdie. Horton claimed the final available position, pouring a putt for par on No. 18.

Theresa Mahlik of Madison leads the 3rd Alabama Women’s State Senior Match Play Championship, posting an even-par 72. Mahlik holds a two-stroke lead.

Donna Lowen of Huntsville stands second on the leaderboard with a two-over 74 to finish the day.

Within the Senior Tournament Division, Kyung-Hwa “K” Theodoss of Hampton Cove leads, carding 12-over 84 to open.

Barbee Bryant of Hoover stands 15-over 87 to remain second.

18 holes of gross individual stroke play determine seeding within each division. The Championship Division will be cut to the low 16 players from the Stroke Play Qualifier that will compete for the overall Championship. The remaining Championship Division players will be divided into flights of four (4).

Senior Championship and Tournament Division players will be divided into flights of four (4) to compete in Match Play, based on qualifying round score.

All players are guaranteed a minimum of two matches, due to consolation brackets for each flight.
