AUBURN, AL – (Aug. 6, 2021) Stroke play qualifying results for the 20th Alabama State Match Play and 1st Alabama State Senior Match Play Championships, hosted by Auburn University Club in Auburn, AL, on Friday, Aug. 6, 2021.

Austin Coggin of Birmingham earned medalist honors at the 20th Alabama State Match Play Championship. Coggin posted eight-under 136 for the stroke play qualifying rounds to lead the Championship.
“I had my highs and lows,” said Coggin. “I got a bad break on hole nine, but I stayed positive and then I made two eagles on the back nine.”
Dylan Moncus of Alexander City, Ben Fuller Birmingham and Tobin Ayers of Auburn each stand T2, posting five-under 139 for the stroke play qualifying rounds.
The three following players went into a sudden-death playoff to compete for the final two positions in tomorrow’s Match Play:
● Brinson Holder of Point Clear
● Sam Jeffcoat of Birmingham
● Harrison Sims of Homewood
Sims and Jeffcoat won the playoffs to claim the final two seats in tomorrow’s Match Play.
Steven Hudson of Birmingham and John Wright of Fairhope each earned medalist honors at the 1st Alabama State Senior Match Play Championship. Hudson and Wright carded six-under 138 for the stroke play qualifying rounds to stand first and second seed in Match Play.
Shaw Pritchett of Montgomery stands third, posting five-under 139 total for the stroke play qualifying rounds.
The three following players went into a sudden-death playoff to compete for the final two positions in tomorrow’s Match Play:
● Hamp Andrews of Daphne
● Jeffrey Darst of Mobile
● Chris Jones of Birmingham
Jones and Darst claimed the final two seats to advance to tomorrow’s Match Play.
Match Play for 20th Alabama State Match Play and 1st Alabama State Senior Match Play Championships will begin on Saturday, Aug. 7, at 7:30 a.m.
36 holes of gross individual stroke play determined seeding of 16 players for match play in each Championship.
This Championship is conducted by the Alabama Golf Association.
