Round Two Results of the 41st Alabama State Four-Ball Championship

ONEONTA, AL (April 28, 2023) – Stroke play round two results of the Alabama Golf Association’s 41st Alabama State Four-Ball Championship held at Limestone Springs in Oneonta, AL on Friday, April 28, 2023.

The team of Will McCurdy of Auburn + Blake Watts of Valley Head climbed the leaderboard today, firing a nine-under 63 for the day and 17-under 125 total. McCurdy and Watts completed the championship’s 36-hole stroke play qualifying with two bogey-free rounds to advance to match play as the 1st seed.
 
“We birdied the last four holes, which really turned a good round into a great round,” said McCurdy.

“Both days were really consistent, so it was easy to keep it positive,” added Watts.
 
Three teams stand T2, carding a total 14-under 128:

●      Matt Gourgeot of Athens + Stewart Whitt of Decatur | Round Two Score: 66
●      Bradley Funderburk of Vestavia Hills + Jones Brown of Trussville | Round Two Score: 66
●      Alex Balog of Elmore + Daniel Burns of Owens Cross Roads | Round Two Score: 67
 
The cut to match play includes 16 teams (no ties) advancing to the Round of 16; today’s round resulted in the following five teams tied for sixteenth place and the final spot in the Round of 16:
 
●      Nicholas Welden of Vestavia Hills + Sam Jeffcoat of Birmingham
●      Cole Skaggs of Rainsville + Zac McCurdy of Fort Payne
●      Jake Nolen of Birmingham + Phillip Provost of Birmingham
●      Matt Barnes of Birmingham + Whitt Luker of Birmingham
●      Lee Birchall of Birmingham and Richard Douglas of Mountain Brook
 
The cut line fell at 10-under 132.
 
The five teams will return for a playoff for the 16th seed tomorrow, April 29, 2023 at 7:00 a.m. off #10. The Round of 16 will begin at 7:30 a.m. off #1. Quarterfinals will follow the Round of 16 in the afternoon.
 
This Championship is conducted by the Alabama Golf Association.
