Round One Results of 2023 Alabama Women’s Stroke Play and State Senior Amateur Championships

ONEONTA, AL (June 21, 2023) - First round results of the 33rd Alabama Women’s Stroke Play Championship, 50th Alabama Women’s State Senior Amateur Championship and the 5th Alabama Women’s State Super-Senior Amateur Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Limestone Springs Golf Club in Oneonta, AL on Wednesday, June 21, 2023.

Lauren Thompson of Midland City fired a seven-under 65 to break the women’s course record at Limestone Springs Golf Club and lead Round One of the 33rd Alabama Women’s Stroke Play Championship. She holds a three-stroke lead over her nearest competition.
 
“My favorite club today had to be my putter,” said Thompson. “I was putting myself in a lot of good positions and I had a lot of birdie opportunities, and thankfully I was able to roll in most of those putts.”
 
Gabriella Nicastro of Huntsville carded a four-under 68 to stand second heading into the second round.
 
Competition remains tight further down the leaderboard. Taylor Trible of Birmingham posted a 69 to stand third; Jinger Heath of Decatur made a 70 to sit just one stroke behind.
 
Susan West of Tuscaloosa shot two-over 74 to lead the 50th Alabama Women’s State Senior Amateur Championship. 
 
Linda Jeffrey of Birmingham stands second, carding a four-over 76 for the day. Nancy Schlich of Auburn and Tami Green of Fairhope both posted a five-over 77 to stand T3.  
 
Jana Hudson of Baileyton leads the Tournament Division with a four-over 76 for the day. 
 
Chris Spivey of Pell City opened Round One with one-under 71 to lead the 5th Alabama Women’s State Super-Senior Amateur Championship. 
 
Defending Champion Ann Lanier of Fairhope posted a two-over 74 to hold second place on the leaderboard. 
 
These Championships are conducted by the Alabama Golf Association. 
 
About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)
