Gabi Nicastro and Linda Jeffery Victorious at Alabama Women’s Stroke Play and State Senior Amateur Championships

ONEONTA, AL (June 23, 2023) - Final results of the 33rd Alabama Women’s Stroke Play Championship and 50th Alabama Women’s State Senior Amateur Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Limestone Springs Golf Club in Oneonta, AL on Friday, June 23, 2023.

33rd Alabama Women’s Stroke Play Championship
 
Gabi Nicastro of Huntsville fired a 72 (E) for the day to claim the 33rd Alabama Women’s Stroke Play Championship title. Nicastro shot a 54-hole total of 209 (-7).
 
“When I saw that putt go in, I was so happy,“ said Nicastro, describing her winning putt on #18. “I didn’t want to celebrate too much, but I was really, really happy.”
 
Morgan Jones of Auburn and Lauren Thompson of Midland City each posted a total 210 for the championship. After a scorecard playoff, Jones claimed silver. She carded a low 69 for the day and birdied four holes on the back nine during the final round.  
 
50th Alabama Women’s State Senior Amateur Championship
 
Linda Jeffery of Prattville shot one-under 71 for the day to claim the 50th Alabama Women’s State Senior Amateur Championship title, and her first-ever AGA Championship title. Jeffery had a 54-hole total of 216 (E). 
 
Susan West of Tuscaloosa earned silver with a total score of 218, just two strokes behind Jeffery. Theresa Mahlik of Madison posted an 236 to stand third.
 
Dina Murray of Chelsea claimed first within the Tournament Division (Senior Flight 1), carding a 19-over 163 overall. 
 
These Championships are conducted by the Alabama Golf Association. 
 
About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)
The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 120 member clubs represented by over 27,000 individuals. Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the Southern Golf Association.
