Lakewood Golf Club to Host the 16th Alabama Women’s State Four-Ball Championship and the 5th Alabama Women’s State Senior Four-Ball Championship

POINT CLEAR, AL (July 25, 2023) – The Alabama Golf Association’s 16th Alabama Women’s State Four Ball Championship and the 5th Alabama Women’s State Senior Four-Ball Championship will take place at Lakewood Golf Club on the Dogwood Course in Point Clear, AL, July 26-27, 2023. The Women’s Four-Ball field is set with 18 players, making up nine teams competing for the Championship title; the Women’s Senior Four-Ball field is set with 52 players making up 26 teams competing for the Championship title.

This year will be the third time that Lakewood Golf Club has hosted the championships. The first championship was played in 2008 at Old Overton Club Club in Birmingham, AL with Kathy Hartwiger and Missy Gooden winning the inaugural event.
 
Last year, Taylor Trible of Birmingham and Yvette Gorden of Pike Road claimed their first Alabama Women’s State Four-Ball Championship victory at the RTJ Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove in Mobile, AL. Defending back-to-back Champions Kathy Hartwiger of Birmingham and Lea Green of McCalla claimed the 4th Alabama Women’s State Senior Four-Ball Championship title. Both teams will return to this year’s championship to defend their titles.

16th Alabama Women’s State Four-Ball Championship 
Entries for the 16th Alabama Women’s State Four-Ball Championship are open to sides of female amateur golfers who are legal residents of Alabama and have an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club. Two players who play as partners comprise a side. Partners are not required to be from the same club. There will be two divisions: Championship and Tournament. Players must pick their division during online registration.  
 
Championship Yardage: 6010 yards
 Course/Slope Rating: 75.2/126
 
This Championship consists of 36 holes of gross four-ball stroke play. The lowest score for 36 holes will be the Champions. In the event of a tie for the Championship, a hole-by-hole playoff will be held immediately following play. The playoff holes and order of play will be determined by the AGA. Any other ties for prizes in all other flights will be resolved by matching scorecards according to the USGA recommendation shown in the Committee Procedures section within the Rules of Golf – “Matching Scorecards.” The Tournament Division will be flighted after 18 holes by score (if necessary). Initial groupings are for round one; round two is repaired by score. 
 
5th Alabama Women’s State Senior Four-Ball Championship 
Entries for the 5th Alabama Women’s State Senior Four-Ball Championship are open to sides of female amateur golfers who are legal residents of Alabama and have an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club. Two players who play as partners comprise a side. Partners are not required to be from the same club. Both members of the side must have reached their 50th birthday by July 26, 2023. 
 
Championship Yardage: 5113 yards
Course/Slope Rating: 70.2/115
 
This championship consists of 36 holes of gross four-ball stroke play. The lowest score for 36 holes will be the Senior Champions (within First Flight, if necessary). In the event of a tie for the Senior Championship, a hole-by-hole playoff will be held immediately following play. The playoff holes and order of play will be determined by the AGA. Any other ties for prizes in all other flights will be resolved by matching scorecards according to the USGA recommendation shown in the Committee Procedures section within the Rules of Golf – “Matching Scorecards.”

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)
