The Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship was first played in 1929 at the Country Club of Birmingham with Mrs. Henry S. Geismer defeating Mrs. Carl Hess 5 and 3 to win the inaugural event. Gabriella Nicastro of Huntsville claimed the title in 2024 at Anniston Country Club. *Note in 2024, the championship format was changed to 54-holes of stroke play only.
The inaugural Women’s State Senior Amateur Championship was first played in 1973 with Ceil Watkins winning the inaugural event at Montgomery Country Club. Mary Isbell holds the record with 8 victories (1995-1999, 2001-2003). Theresa Mahlik of Madison earned her Women’s State Senior Amateur title in 2024 at Anniston Country Club.
Chris Spivey from Pell City won her first Super-Senior Amateur title for the Women’s Super-Senior Championship at Limestone Springs Golf Club in Oneonta, AL in 2023 and went on to defend her title in 2024 at Anniston Country Club.

Championship Yardage/Course & Slope Rating: 5932 yards; 75.3/135
Format: This Championship is conducted at 54 holes of stroke play. Overall champion being the lowest score for 54 holes. There will be one division as described in the entry form with the Champion being the player who posts the lowest 54-hole score in the Championship Division. In the event of a tie for the Championship, a hole-by-hole play-off will be held immediately following play. The playoff holes and order of play will be determined by the AGA. Any other ties in all other flights, will be resolved by matching scorecards according to the USGA recommendation within the Committee Procedures of the Rules of Golf – “Matching Scorecards”. Initial groupings are for round one; the field is re-paired by score after each round.
Eligibility: Alabama Women’s State Amateur entries are open to any female amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club.

Format: This Championship is conducted at 54 holes of gross individual stroke play. No cut. There will be two divisions as described in the entry form with the Champion being the player who posts the lowest 54-hole score in the Championship Division. Tournament Division will be flighted after 36 holes by score (if necessary). In the event of a tie for the overall Championship, a hole-by-hole play-off will be held immediately following play. The play-off holes and order of play will be determined by the AGA. Any other ties for prizes in all other flights, will be resolved by matching scorecards according to the USGA recommendation shown in the Committee Procedures section within the Rules of Golf – “Matching Scorecards”. Initial groupings will be for round one; field will be re-paired by score after round one.
Eligibility: Alabama Women’s State Senior Amateur entries are open to any female amateur golfer who is a member of the AGA, has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club, owns a residence in the state of Alabama where they physically live for at least 5 of the previous 12 months prior to the tournament start date and qualifies under the following age requirements:
- Championship Division - Must have reached her 50th birthday by June 17, 2025.
- Tournament Division - Must have reached her 50th birthday by June 17, 2025.

Format: This championship will be conducted on a stroke play basis for 36 holes, 18 holes daily on June 16-17, 2025. There will be one division as described in the entry form with the Champion being the player who posts the lowest 36-hole score. Championship division will be flighted after 18 holes (if necessary). Initial groupings will be for round one; field will be re-paired by score after the first round. In the event of a tie for the overall Super-Senior Championship, a hole-by-hole play-off will be held immediately following play. The play-off holes and order of play will be determined by the AGA. Any other ties for prizes in all other flights, will be resolved by matching scorecards according to the USGA recommendation shown in the Committee Procedures section within the Rules of Golf – “Matching Scorecards”.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)
The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of 120 member clubs represented by over 30,000 individuals. The activities and services of the Alabama Golf Association are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of Alabama golfers who wish to serve the game and the association through service. A full-time professional staff of seven individuals handles day-to-day activities.
Based in Hoover, the AGA is the USGA's Allied Golf Association in Alabama conducting national championship qualifying, administering the World Handicap System including the GHIN Handicap service, course & slope rating, and Rules of Golf & Handicapping education. The AGA annually conducts 24 championships; team match competitions for men, women, junior and seniors; and the AHSAA high school golf championship. The AGA manages the Junior Golf Alabama program that is a joint venture between the AGA and Alabama-NW Florida PGA Section.
In addition to competitions, the AGA administers the AGA Scholarship Fund through the Alabama Golf Foundation that is dedicated to assisting young golfers in higher education. Additionally, the Alabama Golf Foundation supports the Youth on Course Alabama program providing facility access to junior golfers and provides funding for the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation. In 2016, the AGA earned the Gold Tee Award for “Outstanding Tournament Operations – Small Association” by the International Association of Golf Administrators (IAGA).
Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the historic Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the Southern Golf Association.
