Julie Waldo and Theresa Mahlik Claim Victory at the 2nd Alabama Women's Match Play & 7th Women's State Senior Match Play Championships

ANNISTON, AL (July 10, 2025) – Final results of the 2nd Alabama Women's State Match Play Championship and the 7th Alabama Women's State Senior Match Play Championship at Anniston Country Club in Anniston, AL on Thursday, July 10, 2025.

2nd Alabama Women’s State Match Play Championship Results

The Alabama Women’s State Match Play Championship began at 7:30 a.m. with Semifinal matches. Taylor Trible of Birmingham defeated Ashlynd Madden of Spanish Fort 6 & 5. Julie Waldo of Prattville won 1 up against Yvette Gorden of Pike Road. 

In the final match, Julie Waldo of Prattville claimed the 2nd Alabama Women’s State Match Play title 1 up against Taylor Trible of Birmingham. 

“There was a lot of back-and-forth between me and Taylor but it was a really good match play round,” Waldo said. “I’ve never won an AGA event before so this is my first and it feels great.”

In the Women’s State Match Play Championship Consolation Bracket, Grace Engel of Huntsville defeated Kate Cost of Crane Hill 3 & 2.

7th Alabama Women’s State Senior Match Play Championship Results

Theresa Mahlik of Madison claimed a 3-peat in the 7th Alabama Women’s State Senior Match Play Championship. She won 5 & 4 against Susan West of Tuscaloosa. 

In the Women’s State Senior Match Play Tournament Division, Courtney Williams of Vestavia defeated Candy Mitchell of Springville 4 & 3. 

In the Women’s State Senior Match Play Consolation Bracket , Cym Dogget of Huntsville won 5 & 3 against Emily Johnson of Vestavia.

In 2016, the AGA earned the Gold Tee Award for “Outstanding Tournament Operations – Small Association” by the International Association of Golf Administrators (IAGA).

Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the historic Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the Southern Golf Association.
