2026 Alabama Golf Association USGA P.J. Boatwright Interns
HOOVER, AL (May 11, 2026) – The Alabama Golf Association (AGA) recently welcomed its 2026 USGA P.J. Boatwright Interns, introducing a group of college students and recent graduates who will gain hands-on experience in the golf industry this summer through media and communications or operations roles. This year's interns are Andrew Harris, Karson Schroeder, Cannon Cherry, Ava Willett, Harrison Winter and Alex Possert.

Andrew Harris is a rising senior at The University of Alabama pursuing a degree in accounting. Originally from Alabaster, Alabama, Andrew will work as a Tournament Operations Intern this summer. He enjoys playing and watching spots, especially golf, and loves spending time outdoors and staying active. Andrew is excited to gain hands-on experience in the golf industry through the Alabama Golf Association.

“I feel I can provide a valuable point of view on the game of golf,” said Harris. “I personally feel that the golf community is one of the most influential in my life, and I would love to expand my community through this opportunity as well.”

Karson Schroeder, a native of Jackson, Michigan, will be serving as a Tournament Media & Communications Intern this summer. Schroeder recently graduated from Spring Arbor University (MI) with a degree in sports broadcasting. He is the oldest of three triplet boys in his family, and said that growing up in that environment was always a blast. Karson will be attending Belmont University in the fall to start his Masters in Sports Administration degree, while working as a Video Production Graduate Assistant for Belmont Athletics.

"I really wanted to grow my skills in the sports field, taking on the challenge of covering yet another sport that I've never covered before,” said Schroeder. “This internship gives me the experience of working in a fast paced environment while working with such high class professionals! "

Cannon Cherry is a rising junior at The University of Alabama pursuing a degree in sports management. Originally from Birmingham, Alabama, Cannon will work as a Tournament Operations Intern this summer. Growing up with three brothers who all shared a love for baseball, Cannon developed a passion for sports at an early age. In his free time, he enjoys playing golf and tennis and follows both baseball and golf closely.

"When I decided I wanted to work in the sports industry, golf was the easy choice," said Cherry. “The Boatwright Internship is significant because it is something I can gain a little bit of everything from… my knowledge in how tournaments are run, rules of the game, learning every day from professionals and even meeting people I wouldn't have the opportunity to meet without this internship.”

Ava Willett is a rising senior at Auburn University pursuing a degree in public relations and a minor in leadership. Willett, who is from Chelsea, Alabama, will serve as a Tournament Media & Communications Intern this summer. With a longtime dream of working for the Masters Tournament, this opportunity marks her first step into the golf industry and brings her closer to making that dream a reality. In her free time, she enjoys travelling!

Willett expressed that she is “passionate about sports communication and strategic storytelling and I hope to build a career creating digital content that enhances consumer experience.” She also shared that she hopes to “gain exposure to how professional golf events manage brand image and fan engagement.”

Harrison Winter, a rising senior at the University of Mississippi, will be serving as a Tournament Operations Intern this summer. Sports are a huge part of Winter’s life, as he grew up a diehard Ole Miss, New Orleans Saints, & Atlanta Braves fan. This passion for sports is what led him to dream of working on the PGA tour, saying that “this opportunity with the AGA is a great way to get into the sports world.”

“I hope to gain connections most importantly for this internship, as well as, operational skills that I can use in my future dream jobs in golf,” said Winter. “I like to travel and actually be at the tournaments in person because of all the amazing experiences I will gather while working.”

Alex Possert, a recent sports management graduate from Texas Agricultural & Management University (A&M), will be serving as a Tournament Operations Intern this summer. In his free time he likes to stay active by playing sports and running, and also enjoys playing piano and guitar. Possert plans to eventually attend law school, but before that, wants to work in sports to better understand the operations of sports business.

Alex expressed that "My goal is to eventually work as an in-house counsel at a major corporation in sports, the dream being the PGA of America” saying that “this internship aligns [with] my future goals because I can learn about the business and operations of a sports organization on a smaller scale, a perspective that will hold value when I am in other positions."

Through a thorough interview process, AGA full-time staff members selected Harris, Schroeder, Cherry, Willett, Winter and Possert as 2026 USGA Alabama Golf Association P.J. Boatwright Interns.

About the USGA P.J. Boatwright Internship

In 1991, the USGA established the P.J. Boatwright Jr. Internship Program, designed to give paid, hands-on experience to individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in golf administration, while assisting state and regional golf associations in the promotion of amateur golf, on a short-term, entry level basis.
Here at the Alabama Golf Association, our internship program offers roles focused in Tournament Administration & Operations, Tournament Media & Communications, or Junior Golf & Tournament Operations. Internship length is typically from May to August, but internship may be extended for exceptional candidates, allowing for a more immersive experience tailored to individual career goals and project timelines.
In addition to the AGA's state-wide competitions and the JGA Tour, our staff conducts the Southern Junior and Southern Amateur Championships on behalf of the Southern Golf Association. Both of these events attract premier golfers from all over the world. This exposure to elite amateur golf competition allows our interns to participate in tournament administration at the local, state, regional, and international levels.
